Tasting Notes: Our 2006 George de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon commemorates the 70th vintage of this exceptional wine. The1936 George de Latour Private Reserve was the original California private reserve and first wine from Napa Valley to gain international recognition. To this day, it remains the ultimate artistic expression of Cabernet Sauvignon at Beaulieu Vineyard. We use handcrafted detail with small-lot fermentation, a portion of which is executed in barrel, for seamless integration of flavors and rich, silky complexity. Our 2006 Georges de Latour marries refined elegance with opulent intensity and robust character. At once, the senses are wooed by heady aromas of blackberry bramble, ripe cassis, mocha and spice. The dark, concentrated fruit picks up intensity across the palate, joined by classic Rutherford notes of black licorice, loam and coffee. Its formidable body is balanced by firm tannins that span the middle and linger with hints of cocoa through the finish
Vineyard Notes: The Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced primarily from select blocks of our original estate vineyards, Beaulieu Vineyard Ranch No. 1 and Beaulieu Vineyard Ranch No. 2.ting on an expansive alluvial fan on the historic Rutherford Bench, these low-yielding vineyards are comprised of well-drained gravel and clay loam soils ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. With our intimate knowledge of this land, we replanted the vineyards to Clone 4 and Clone 6 in the early 1990s. These clones, identified and evaluated in conjunction with the University of California, Davis, produce the highly concentrated, uniquely flavored grapes at the core of the Georges de Latour wine.
Winemaker Notes: Mother Nature showed her temperamental side in 2006—pounding us with heavy spring rain, making us sweat out a heat wave and then graciously providing perfect conditions during harvest. Rains lasted unusually late into spring, raising the total seasonal rainfall to about 50 inches in Rutherford. June tallied slightly above-average temperatures, and hot weather arrived in July. Napa’s renowned morning fog returned in August and continued through harvest to foster exceptional grapes.
